November 7 is a special day. When I was 15 years old I learned that it was Rhoda Krady’s birthday. We learned to know each other when we were both sophomores at Eastern Mennonite School. But for her junior year she helped start the Lancaster Mennonite High School and I was still enrolled at EMS.
In my mind, none of my fellow class mates matched her so I wrote my first letter to her in time to arrive on her sixteenth birthday. Many letters were to follow. At first we exchanged letters every other week. Letters flowed from Harrisonburg, Va., Chambersburg, Pa., Grottoes, Va., North Fork, Ca., Gulfport, Miss. By the time my letters were sent from California our letters were written and sent every day.
Rhoda was known by many in Tampa as Sister Lehman. This website and Facebook has enticed many of them to come forward and make themselves known. I am grateful.
For the past several days I have combed through the multitude of pictures on my computer and sorted out those which show Rhoda’s life in sequence. Click on this link and you should be able to view them in a slideshow.
